A profile of legendary treasure hunter Bob Marx
Bob Marx, considered by many to be one of the World’s top treasure hunters, is profiled in a great piece in Florida Today. Marx has dove on countless shipwrecks, written several books on treasure hunting, and explored the ruins of Port Royal, the infamous pirate town that sank into the sea following a massive earthquake.
My favorite story from the article is how Bob Marx turned down $50,000 to consultant on the first Pirates of the Caribbean film because the producer was an ass and wouldn’t put on his cigar in their initial meeting.
In his 60’s Marx has been hunting nearly all his life, following his first shipwreck discovery at age 15. This story and lots more are in the article, it’s a very interesting read.
Anyone have any interesting Bob Marx stories to share?

I’ve read and owned quite a few of Bob Marx’s books and are still the best and most entertaining books on treasure hunting.
Whenever I think about them though I get a little angry because I always loaned them out for friends to read, and never returned.
Now I’ve got to try replacing them as they’re out of print.

My name is Mike Nelson. I live in Japan and just finished translating 20 pages of Bob Marx’s story of Discovering the Maravillas from English to Japanese. It was difficult to translate due to all of the Spanish terms and historical background that I had to understand to correctly translate it. When I was finished, I was glad that I took the job because it gave me an interesting insight on a world I can not see living in Japan. Plus I got paid too, hehe.

Hi Bob:
A few days Carl Helwig told me that he though U knew amlot of stuff about canons. I have some images of a a canon some recovered somewhere on the coast around Louisiana r Mississippi.
I saw it lying near the Hwy while I was en route to locate a ship anchor lost in the Mississippi River.
When I was a younger man, I was a commercial oilfield diver and we also conducted salvage operations for tug boats and jumbo hooper barges in the Mississippi River.
Now days I have a small underwater survey company in Louisiana, we preform hydrographic, msg., side scan sonar, and Mesotech surveys.
The pic,s I took were with my cell phone. I didn’t have a real camera with me at the time I saw the canon….So the only I can send U the pic,s is via your cell phone.
My company is called Brian & Assoc., LLC…My cell # 504-875-6778.
The canon is located about 160 miles away and i don’t have any plans to go back in that area….I would like to try and get some sort of ID on the canon…..U might need to put spell check on this site.
Respectfully,
Pac Brian
