Rare sheet music printing plate discovered
In 1916, then 9 year old Sally Kauffman uncovered a strange metal plate in her parent’s barn in Minnesota. It had writing on it, and was good shape, but nobody was quite sure what it was. While curious, nothing much more was though about the object for many years.
Recently, while looking for heirlooms for her children she rediscovered the old plate, and began researching it. Turns out, it was a printing plate for a song titled “Our Own U.S.”, written by J. L. Berge sometime before the end of the Civil War.
Appraisals have priced the plate at upwards of a million dollars. Not bad!
